TaskForce Offers Support to Chicago Public Schools and Voices Concern for LGBTQ+ Youth and Youth of Color Ahead of CEO’s Congressional Testimony

Chicago, IL – June 5, 2026 – As Chicago Public Schools CEO Macquline King prepares to testify before Congress regarding district policies affecting LGBTQ+ students and educational equity initiatives, TaskForce Prevention & Community Services is expressing its support for Chicago Public Schools and its concern for the potential impact these discussions may have on LGBTQ+ youth and youth of color.

For more than 35 years, TaskForce has partnered with schools, families, and community organizations to improve the health and well-being of young people throughout Chicago. As the oldest Black-led LGBTQ+ organization in Chicago, TaskForce has worked closely with Chicago Public Schools to provide wellness programming, educational workshops, leadership development opportunities, and supportive spaces for students.

“We are concerned about the message this scrutiny may send to LGBTQ+ youth and youth of color who already face disproportionate challenges related to mental health, bullying, discrimination, and social isolation,” said Dr. Christopher Balthazar, Executive Director of TaskForce Prevention & Community Services. “These young people deserve to know that they belong, that they are valued, and that their schools and communities remain committed to their success.”

TaskForce has collaborated with CPS through school-based Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs), youth wellness initiatives, and district-wide events such as the CPS Galaxy Summit, where students from across the city come together to build community, develop leadership skills, and access supportive resources. Through these partnerships, TaskForce has witnessed firsthand the positive impact that affirming and inclusive environments can have on student well-being and academic success.

“As CEO King prepares to testify, we want CPS leadership, educators, students, and families to know that they have strong community partners standing alongside them,” Balthazar added. “Our priority is ensuring that LGBTQ+ youth and youth of color continue to have access to safe spaces, supportive adults, and opportunities to thrive. We remain committed to working with CPS to support the health, wellness, and success of all students.”

TaskForce Prevention & Community Services will continue partnering with Chicago Public Schools and other community stakeholders to ensure that young people have access to the resources, support, and opportunities they need to reach their full potential.
